Merritt has adjusted his game from the summer time to the
high school season. In the summer he played the way he has played his
entire life and that is to score first, but throughout the season he has
been a pass first point guard. This style of play has been somewhat
affective as he has posted a couple of double doubles, but with Allan Ray
out, the team needed him to look to score a little more for them to have
been successful with Ray sidelined. Although he stands at just 5'9 he is
able to use his strength and athleticism to get to the basket and shoot
over taller defenders. He can knock down the 3 but he has to get a more
consistent outside jumper to succeed at the next level. He is a pretty
good defender but he has trouble with quicker guards that have crafty
handles, but so do a lot of players.
