1. St. Raymond previous 2-
Only had one game against Holy Cross, predictably they had an easy time.
This week will be much tougher, as they travel to Molloy on Friday,
January 10th at 7:30, and to the Gaucho Gym for a showdown with Rice at
6pm on Tuesday January 14th
2. Christ the King previous 3-
Recorded two vicotories, at home against All Hallows in overtime 71-66,
and traveled to St. Francis Prep and were victorious 76-59. 6'0 PG Japhet
McNeil led the way over All Hallows with 26, 5'10 SG Mitch Beauford
averaged 19 points for the week and 6'6 C Justin Marshall averaged 16.5
points.
3. Rice previous 1- Came in to
the week ranked #3 by USA Today but surprisingly fell to Xaverian, 59-50.
Will look to rebound this week with home games against Loughlin on Sunday,
and St. Raymond on Tuesday, both games are at 6pm. Only one game this
week, home against Loughlin on Friday at 7:30.
4. Our Savior New America
Previous 4- On a 6 game winning streak including three in last week's
Rim Rockers Classic at Longwood High School. They opened the tourney with
a 81-68 win over Dunbar (DC), then beat Toledo Scott (OH) 68-52 in the
semfinals, and used a 20-0 run over the 3rd and 4th quarters to beat
Lutheran Christian (PA) 68-60 in the championship. The most impressive
thing about Our Savior is in every game held their opponent to single
digits in 1 quarter. 6'8 PF Juan Deigo Tellos Palacios won Tournament MVP,
and 6'6 SF Oumar Sylla was named to the All-Tournament team.
5. Lincoln Previous 5- Only
had one game but it was a big one, as they blew out Vallejo (CA), who
featured junior Demarcus Nelson who is headed to Duke, by a score of
91-63. 6'0 PG Sebastian Telfair actually was outscoring Vallejo 30-29 late
in the 3rd quarter, and his team lead 63-29. They have a matchup against
Wadliegh, on Sunday at 6pm at Hunter College.
6. Mt. Vernon Previous 6- Got
an easy wina over Roosevelt 93-45 behind 26 points from 6'6 PF freshman
Johnathan Mitchell and 98-32 over Lincoln which included a 27-1 first
quarter. Play at Saunders on Friday.
7. XaverianPrevious NR- Have
been on a role lately winning the Monsignor King Tournament and beating
previously #1 Rice 59-50, behind a 19 point 16 rebound performance from
6'9 C Chris Taft.
8. Molloy Previous 7- Easily
handled Wadleigh and got past all Hallows 77-64, behind 23 points and 10
rebounds from 6'2 SG Sundiata Gaines. Have a busy week, as they take on
St. Ray's at home on Friday and travel to Holy Cross on Sunday at 3:30 and
McClancy on Tuesday at 4.
9. St. Mary Previous 8- I
mistakenly printed they had the holidays off, they played two games,
against Our Lady of Lourdes and Floral Park and won by a combined 99
points. Seems they had last week off but I could be wrong ;-).
10. Amityville Previous 10-
Won't have a tough league game all year, with high major talent 6'1 PG
junior AJ Price filling it up against players who for the most part are at
best D2 players. Last week was no different as they beat Haborfields 94-36
and Bayport-Blue Point 91-65, Price averaged 22.5 points in the two games.
Five to Watch: Banneker, St. Francis Prep, All Hallows, Bishop Loughlin,
